Camping with Josiah

Josiah and I are going to get away for a day and a half. We are heading out to a camping site. We are going to “rough” it out with a tent and everything. We are going to see how long we can last without a restaurant 🙂 Christina and I have been talking about spending some personal time with the boys one-on-one when they turn 10 years old. Josiah is going to enter into...

July 4th 2007

We spent the birthday of our nation by just going out as a family. It was hard finding places that were open on this day, but we were able to go to a place where they had a batting cage, miniature golf, and video arcade. So it was a fun day for the kids. Josiah was able to go into a batting cage for the first time. He was pretty excited and he did well...

Globalization and Cheesesteaks

As some of you know, there is some great cheesesteak in Philadelphia. Probably the two famous ones are Pat’s Cheesesteak and Geno’s Cheesesteak. During this past AMI Revolution in Philadelphia, some of the staff people got a taste of it for the first time. Since our group was fairly large, we divided up into 2 groups and one went to Pat’s and the other went to Geno’s. I ended up going to Pat’s and I...

Situation in Peru

As many of you have heard by now, the 2007 Peru Missions team has not be able to return back to the United States due to a transportation workers’ strike. All forms of transportation have been blocked. We are now praying that things will open up so that the team can get back to Ann Arbor safely. I have always been a firm believer that there are no “coincidences” or “accidents” in Christianity. When a...

2007 AMI Revolution Update 4

I finally get an opportunity to catch my breath from this long weekend. As I reflect on this past weekend, I am thankful that God is moving powerfully in all the AMI churches. We ended the AMI Revolution conference on a high note with Pastor Young’s message about learning how to flee, fight and follow. We also had some quality time praying for one another. Here are some takeaways from this conference: 1) God is...

2007 AMI Revolution Update 3

Whenever all the messages from the various speakers flow together, it is an encouraging thing. It is as if the Holy Spirit takes the pieces together and puts it together like a puzzle. Pastor Matt from Journey Church of Atlanta spoke yesterday morning on the importance of the Church – the need for more of a corporate identity in Christianity was emphasized in light of our calling in 1 Peter 2:9-10. Then in the afternoon,...

2007 AMI Revolution Update 2

Last night we had a great time of worship and we had a timely word delivered by Pastor Bruce from Remnant Westside. We were reminded to “take up our crosses” which should not be a negative thing, but it should remind us of our positional identity in Christ. Christ took our cross and therefore it reminds us of Christ’s love for us. The main thrust of the night was the challenge of learning to fall...

2007 AMI Revolution Update 1

After some flight delays, I finally arrived in Philadelphia – the land of the “brotherly love.” The Michigan and Chicago guys have also arrived via the long 10-11 hour drive. They are probably really tired. Some of the other speakers and I went out to a Thai restaurant for dinner in the city and now we are in the Union drinking some Starbucks and chilling. One of the great things about these kinds of conferences...

Picnic on the Porch

Today for dinner we wanted to have a make-shift picnic on the porch. As the weather was getting cooler due to the approaching thunderstorm, we thought it would be refreshing to have the gentle breeze blow on our faces (ok, well… it was more like me trying to convince my family). Finally, my persuasiveness won out and we grilled some Korean marinated beef and had a delicious cold noodle dish. As it started to drizzle,...

2007 AMI Revolution – The Call

There is just one day left before the start of the AMI Revolution conference. This year’s theme will be “The Call.” I am looking forward to sharing on the 2nd night. I will be talking about “The Transformative Call.” The Revolution Conference started back in 2005 as part of the intensive training for the students going on summer missions program in the AMI churches. But now it has developed into a...

Bird Watching

Christina and I had our weekly date-day (we try to alternate from a date-night to a date-day). After breakfast, we decided to take a walk. I have always believed that “older” people took walks together – but then, I guess we are getting older… HA! As we were walking around our neighborhood we came across so many different types of birds. In fact, it was pretty fascinating. Now, I understand a little bit why one...

Married Couples Putt-Putting

Once a month our married couple’s small group tries to do an activity together. This Tuesday we decided to go Putt-Putting. We paired up as couples and made a team of 4’s. It was fun, especially when we got a discount coupon for hitting a hole-in-one. For some reason our group had people who were feeling the hole-in-one anointing! I think everyone in our group got a hole-in-one. Yay! It was a blessing to see...

A Trip to the Library

I realized that everything is getting automated. Today, our family made a trip out to the library to check out some books and DVD’s. To my pleasant surprise, there was a self-serve check out counter. We just had to scan our library card and then our library materials. It was quick and easy. For a person that is all about efficiency, I am glad that the library is moving in this direction. But I think...
