“24” Season 6 Finale

Since I was in Dallas, I missed the 2-hour season ending of “24” on TV. But thankfully, Christina recorded it for me (to feed my addiction).

SPOILER WARNING!

It is amazing how a lot of movies and T.V. shows have glimpses of the Gospel. In fact, I have been saying it for some time now, but when things move us emotionally in a scene, it is because some element of the Gospel is present.

In the last hour of the show, Jack approaches Audrey (while she is still sleeping) and tells her that he has to let her go. He said, “I know I told you that I would protect you and take care of you, but the most loving thing to do is to let you go.” Wow!

Not only is this a sign of unconditional love, but it demonstrated a selfless sacrifice. The man was willing to give her up so that she can really live. Gospel? Absolutely.

I was just thinking about how “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…”

Also, when we think about our Christian life, it is only when we learn to surrender and die to ourselves that we can really start living – sometimes losing something is really the greatest gain.

Just a side note, one thing that gets under my skin is when the secular world does a better job of communicating the elements of the Gospel better than the Church. If we have the greatest message to share with the world, then we have to find creative ways to communicate it with this culture. The Church has to do a better job – we can’t let shows like, “24”, Lost, Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy, and etc beat us out.
