I will first just give a quick overview in terms of what happened today and then later on, I will give more of an extensive reflection of my experience at the 10K.
We did not get off to a great start. When we arrived at the starting station, it started to drizzle and then it rained a little bit. As we were all lined up and ready to go, we were told that there was a delay due to a broken tree on the race path. I started to get nervous because I didn’t know if I would be able to get to church on time after the race – I was preaching today! Note to self: never be scheduled to preach if I do another race on Sunday.
The first mile was exhilarating with all the adrenaline pumping in my body. But then in the 2nd mile marker I started to get a cramp, which was probably precipitated by my lack of rest within the last two days.
I violated all the rules of running a race due to my inadequate preparation, but no excuses. I just know I could have trained and prepared myself better for this race. Now I know. Next time, I will glean wisdom from this experience.
But the silver-lining in all this is that I finished the race… right now, the time is not the issue. The real issue is that Christina BEAT me! The worst part was that my kids were there to witness all this – it bruised my dad ego 🙂 But I am proud of Christina because she stayed focused and steady all throughout the race.
After this race, I was wondering what sadistic person would even think about doing a marathon or even the Triathlon.
The kids were waiting for us at the finish line
This was right after the race… I am still trying to catch my breath
The kids wanted to get in the picture as well
