Born to Sing

I have said it many times before, but I really believe that one of most important ways to communicate the Gospel in this generation will be through the arts and media. Every time I travel to various places, I am amazed to see how universal music is to people from all different backgrounds.

When someone is gifted by God to sing, they are able to evoke some powerful emotions from people. Music has the ability to get people excited or even bring a hush silence in a room. What would it be like if God raised up someone who would be able to communicate the Gospel message clearly through their voice as they sing from their hearts?

Recently, I checked up on season 7 of the American Idol on the web. I am like a fourth quarter watcher for this show (cut out all the fluff and get to the real thing).

When I heard David Archuleta sing, it really moved me. He ended up singing John Lennon’s song, “Imagine.” It was a powerful rendition of it. In fact, it was one of the best ones I have heard. It even brought Paula Abdul to tears. Did I mention that he is only a 17 year old!

I love what Randy Jackson said about David after his performance. He said, “You were born to do exactly what you’re doing there.” Wow! It reminded me of Eric Liddell’s quote, “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”

To feel the pleasure of God as we do what we feel God has created us to do is a pretty incredible and powerful thing. I am praying that God will raise up more musicians and artists in our church who will bring the Gospel message to the ends of the earth.

Check out David’s Archuleta’s rendition of “Imagine.”
