AMI Trip to California

I am looking forward to spending some time with the other AMI trans-local leaders as well as spending some time with God.

In fact, Pastor Keith got a place out in San Juan Capistrano, California. It is a retreat center where we will be able to pray, plan and prepare for what God has in store for us in 2007.

Pastor Keith made a specific request to all of us – “No internet, no computers, no cellphone or any other electronic device.” Well… except during some of the brief breaks that we will be taking. This is going to be hardcore… it might take a couple of days to overcome the withdrawal symptoms of no connectivity.

Hopefully, there will be some time to write up some updates.

Please pray for our time together… we really need to hear God’s voice and get His direction for AMI.

Missing Season 6 of 24

As some of you probably heard, I was a skeptic of the T.V. show “24” in the beginning. But even the hardest of skeptics can be converted… haha!

It is sad that the premiere of season 6 is going on right now as I type. They decided to show 2-hours of the premiere today and then 2-hours on Monday – that is a total of 4 hours!

Thank God we did not get rid of the VHS machine.

Built to Last in Chicago

Right after the HMCC of Ann Arbor congregational retreat we drove out to Detroit Airport to fly into Chicago for Sunday Celebration. I realized (after the fact), we could have driven out to Chicago from the retreat center because it would have been faster. Oh well, you’ve got to love the airplane snacks!

We just finished off a 2-part series in HMCC of Chicago called, “Built to Last.” We looked into 2 of the metaphors that the Bible uses to describe the Church – the House of God and the Body of Christ. I was so encouraged because I think some of the people in Chicago are slowly getting a vision of what the church could be like…

This is very exciting for me because I realized that once I caught a vision for the local church, God propelled me into a deeper understanding of His heart… His heart for me and His heart for the world. This is my prayer for the members in Chicago – that we will no longer do church as business as usual.

The foundations are being laid and people are experiencing God.

It was encouraging to see so many people come out to church today… God is moving.

Transformative Retreat

I am finally catching my breath at Chicago O’Hare Airport. The retreat was a landmark retreat. I was able share the vision and values of our church. I realized that after 10 years of being in the same place, it is easy to take things for granted or just assume that people know the DNA of the church.

The 3 messages that I was able to share covered the theme of transformation. We talked about:

1) Transformative Spirituality
2) Transformative Spaces
3) Transformative Spheres

In fact, the last message that I gave on “Transformative Spheres” is pretty much my life’s passion and goal. I am praying that we will raise up “world shakers and history makers” for Jesus.

For those of you who could not make it to the retreat, hopefully you can get a hold of some of the sermons.
